And He's Protesting What, Exactly?

I don't get the book burner. So a used bookseller is burning old copies of Tom Clancy books because local libraries and thrift stores couldn't use them. And the protest is what, exactly? That there are too many bestsellers printed each year?

Edited to add:

I like Christine M's take on the the book burning, particulary what she has to say about the increase in number of books available.

I am visiting from The Magic of Books. You are right what is the point of the book burning?

Oh, I know. I read that article earlier, and I thought, "Er?" Meanwhile, people are frantically sifting through the To-Be-Burned stacks and buying them from him? I mean, was that his point? A fire sale!?

Yes, I'm leaning towards Book Burning Marketing Plan: sale! sale! or everything must burn!

It's dumb.

I think it's pretty safe to say that he's all about the publicity.

not just publicity. he has rental fees for the warehousing of those books, I am sure. If he can't give them away to libraries, he has to pay to have them hauled away to a landfill. what else is he going to do with them?

If they are new books, he may have to pay some kind of property tax on them. Nonetheless, I wondered just what he expected to gain by doing this.

Hey, Liz, I've tagged you for the 8 Things Meme.

Well, if it was because he wanted to save on rental fees and taxes he should just say so instead of whining about people's disinterest in old Tom Clancy novels.

Liz, I liked Christine's take on it too -- it almost made me feel happy about it!

Maybe he's protesting people not wanting to spend money on his piece-o-crap books?

They're trying to save the books over at paperbackswap.com btw.
