No, It's Not The Sex

Online Dating

The reason for the R Rating?

Because of the frequency of the following words: death (7x), dead (4x), zombie (2x) and murder (1x).

Yes, DEATH and DEAD are R Rated words.

Sigh.

I saw it at A Year of Reading (PG 13).

Yeah, we're PG 13 in spite of one officially counted and one under the radar uses of the word "sex." Go figure. You probably have Buffy to thank for your rating, at least in part!

I'm R, for:

dead (8x) pain (2x) bitches (1x)

While I know it's all in fun, I'm still SHOCKED that an R would come from basically reviewing Hattie Big Sky, the cleanest book ever; reviewing the nonfiction Wildly Romantic, where I mention death dying (interestingly, the use of INCEST had no affect on the rating); Emily Dickinson; well, you get the picture.

If it's R to talk about death & dying in real life and fiction, bring it on!!

My blog is rated G, but the one word that was cited was "gay." Here are the instances in which I used gay:

1) To quote "The Quangle-Wangle's Hat" ("gay" means merry in this instance)
2) Listing "Enola Gay" by OMD

3) Recommending an origami book by Gay Merrill Gross

Meanwhile, I've got 24 references to death sprinkled throughout the blog, plus 2 references to hell (underworld stories).

And with all the military stuff I blog about (especially MoH and VC citations), I'm only rated NC-17: punch (11x), death (7x), gun (5x), bomb (3x) and shoot (1x).

I just blogged about this yesterday.
I'm RATED R for:
* gay (6x)
* hurt (3x)
* hell (2x)
* rape (1x)

It's the "gay" word being R Rated that kills me.

It's mostly because the title of my novel is TIPS ON HAVING A GAY (ex) BOYFRIEND.

David Lubar suggested that I bump myself up to X, by writing the theme song to the Flintstones over and over again.
