For Better or For Worse

Have you been reading For Better or For Worse?

Yes, despite the train wreck of Liz/Anthony (worse story line since Renesme), I'm still reading.

Why?

The Howard Blunt blog. If you're a fan of FBoFW (the "OMG I cannot believe how bad this has gotten" type of fan) go read HB's blog. There is snark, analysis, pointing out of the bad retcon of the current strip, and behind the scenes info that explains, partly, the train wreck.

Wow. The blog is great, but it makes me feel like I definitely did the right thing by taking FBoFW out of my bookmarks bar a week ago. It has gotten just too painful!

Seriously, first I read Howard, then I read the strip. And I'm a bit amazed at the intertwining of Lynne's self and Elly. But that is also because I am fascinated by where story comes from. FBoFW it like some crazy unintentional memoir.

I'm not sure how much longer I'll hang on, because the smugness of the strips is really grating. I like HB's blog because of the respect it gives the cartoon format; and because it helps to realize I'm not the only one who overanalyzes stuff.

I read FBofW for ages -- and then I had to quit. And yes: I'm very much a person who overanalyzes, so it was driving me batty.

This is why I love the blogosphere. There are people as weird as I am here? And they're fine with talking about it.

Thank you for introducing me to the snarky site. That's ...freakin' hilarious.

I thought she ended FBoFW and the strips we see now are "reruns". Maybe they just haven't aged well.

Lynne "ended" the story being told and decided to return to the "simpler" storytelling of Elly as sahm of 2 small children. To do this, she is mixing new strips of NewYoungElly with reruns of OriginalYoungElly. It's not quite returning to OriginalYoungElly days, as it is unclear when the current new strips are taking place: modern day or 30 years ago; plus, the ages of her friends and her friends children do not match up to the original strips.

Does it make sense?

No.

Basically, its new strips, set back in the day, mixed with reruns. In addition, Lynn said she wouldn't use reruns that had things like typewriters in them.
